Why America Must Remain Free

Freedom is something no one should ever take for granted!

I say this as a woman who grew up in a Muslim country that first fell under communism and later collapsed into chaos when that system failed. From a very early age, I learned a simple truth that the human soul was designed for liberty. Any system that denies that liberty is doomed to fail at some point because freedom is not something governments grant, it is a God-given right.

Since moving to the West, I have been witnessing a tragic reality among America’s younger generations. I have watched people who have flourished under a free market and the blessings of free speech and expression openly support policies that strip them of these privileges.

I can’t say I’m surprised. Human nature often fails to value what it has until it loses it. Only then do people realize its worth. I don’t want America to reach that point of regret. If there is anything I love to advocate for, it is freedom, because I know how precious it is.

Living under regimes where free speech is non-existent, it is unsettling to watch America march toward censorship, division, and hostility towards its own founding principles.

Today, the American foundation is under attack and not from foreign invaders, but from within. And unless people act now, the future of freedom in America may not be as bright as we hope.

America’s Identity

America, though imperfect, is unlike any other nation. It is unique because it was not built on ethnicity, royalty, or empire. Instead, it was built on an idea, that every human being is created equal and endowed with inalienable rights. That idea has inspired generations to fight tyranny, abolish slavery, liberate women, defend minorities, and welcome immigrants searching for safety and liberty.

Despite all the recent negative rhetoric we hear about immigrants supposedly “invading” the United States, immigrants remain loyal to its founding principles. Immigrants have always been part of America’s fabric. We work hard, we build, we serve, all while loving this country. The vast majority of immigrants come to America because it is free. They value, defend it, and often fight for it with more passion than many native-born citizens. It is because we know firsthand what the alternative looks like. The idea that immigrants refuse to assimilate is largely a myth. If people simply wanted to cling to their old way of life, they would have stayed where they were.

There are some conservative voices claim that migration is erasing America’s identity. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth. American culture remains remarkably strong. In fact, American culture has not only shaped the people who live here but also influenced the entire world. From music and television to politics, books, and celebrity culture, America’s impact is everywhere.

Take, for example, the TV show Friends. You could travel to almost any country in the world, mention you are from America, and someone will tell you how much they love that show. That’s the power of American entertainment, and a glimpse into how deeply American culture has shaped global life.

The Spirit of the American Freedom

American identity has always been strong, and it will remain so—unless it loses its freedom. American was founded by outliers who carried the same spirit of freedom that new immigrants come seeking today. The same freedom-loving people, rebellious spirit that drove Europeans to this land still exists and continues to drive immigration.

Now, I want to be clear, I’m not advocating for open borders because that would be extremely stupid. Every sovereign nation should have secure borders, and immigration should be guided by laws that help the country flourish. But those laws must also be humane, upholding the same human dignity we extend to the native-born. It we fail to do that, we cannot truly claim to be who we say we are. Immigrants are human beings, and once they step on this soil, the laws of the land apply to them too. America has always been a nation of immigrant, and it has always evolved because of them. Yet through all that change, the foundational principles that make this nation unique have remained intact.

It those founding principles are abandoned, then and only then, does America cease to be America. It is not migration, not economic collapse, not even geopolitical threats that endanger this country. The greatest danger is an attack of its principles.

Why American Greatness Depends on Freedom

Coming to America changed my life. It gave me opportunities I could never dreamed of in my homeland: the ability to speak openly, to pursue an education, to live without fear, and dream bigger than I was ever allowed to as a Muslim woman. America gave me what my homeland could never and that is a chance to be free. That is why I cannot stay silence while watching the very freedoms that saved me being eroded.

The American spirit is not about where you were born; it is about what you believe, that freedom is worth fighting for. America cannot be conquered from the outside. Its vast land and nature defenses make it nearly impossible. The real danger comes from within; division, moral decay, and willingness to trade freedom for comfort and control.

This is why I believe in the American people more than any political system. The spirit of freedom has survived wars, crises, and attacks before. It can endure again, but only if we choose to defend it. We must never forget the cost of freedom, never surrender our responsibility to protect it, and never stop believing in its promises. Because once freedom is lost, it rarely comes back.

America is not perfect. It has never been. But America is great because it is free. They day America stops being free is the day it stops being great.
